Q2 IC sales were up 27% YoY and are further expected to grow 29% in Q3 2024, says a report from SEMI and TechInsights, as improved demand delivered a 2.6% H1 YoY decline in IC inventory levels.
Q2 installed fab capacity reached 40.5 million wafers per quarter (in 300mm wafer equivalent) and is projected to rise 1.6% in Q3.
Q2 Foundry and Logic-related capacity showed 2% growth in and is projected to increase 1.9% driven by capacity build-up for advanced nodes.
Q2 Memory capacity increased 0.7% in Q2 2024 and is forecast to see 1.1% growth in Q3 2024 supported by demand for HBM and improving memory pricing

All regions tracked saw installed capacity increases in Q2 2024 with China remaining the fastest growing region despite mediocre fab utilization rates.
H1 semiconductor capex fell 9.8% YoY. In Q3, led by demand for AI and HBM chips, memory capex is forecast to grow 16% QoQ with non-memory capex growing by 6% QoQ.
