Sony Adds 50MP CIS

Sony has expanded its LYTIA image sensor portfolio with a 50MP CIS designed for high-end and flagship smartphone cameras designated LYT-818.

The device has a sensor size of 1/1.28″ and a pixel size of 1.22 μm. This combination of a large sensor and increased pixel size is claimed to enhance image quality with  low noise and impressive HDR capabilities.

The sensor is specifically designed for use in both wide and multicamera smartphone cameras. This sensor adopts Ultra-High Conversion Gain (UHCG) circuit technology that achieves high charge to voltage conversion efficiency and reduces random noise in low-light environments, ensuring clear imaging and improved color representation.

A new Proprietary HDR technology captures a single exposure in three different gain settings, and then combines these data sets.

This HDR method delivers a high dynamic range of 86dB and provides perfect exposure for high-contrast scenes. The sensor also offers a low-power HDR preview to enhance the capture experience.

The sensor enables video recording at 4K2K with Sony’s All pixel Autofocus at 120fps and also supports single-frame and multi-frame HDR recording with All pixel AF at 60fps with DCG HDR and 30fps with the new HDR method.
