Qualcomm Buys Ventana

Qualcomm has Bought Ventana Micro Systems  to strengthen Qualcomm’s CPU capabilities by integrating Ventana’s expertise in RISC-V ISA development.

The Ventana team will complement Qualcomm’s ongoing RISC-V and custom Oryon CPU development.

“We believe the RISC-V instruction set architecture has the potential to advance the frontier on CPU technology, enabling innovation across products,” says Qualcomm evp Durha Malladi, “the acquisition of Ventana Micro Systems marks a pivotal step in our journey to deliver industry-leading RISC-V based CPU technology across products.”

Qualcomms is currently engaged in litigation with another of its CPU suppliers – Arm. Ventana gives Qualcomm a potential alternative source supplier of  CPU technology.
